Maritime Informatics & Robotics Symposium to be held in Syros
26 – 27 June 2025

The Maritime Symposium 2025, focusing on Maritime Informatics and Robotics, will take place from June 26 to June 27 in Ermoupolis, Syros, a city that stands out with its rich maritime history and industrial heritage, once a global hub for trade and maritime transactions between Western Europe, the Mediterranean, and the East.

The Maritime Symposium 2025, which will take place at the historic Apollo Theatre, is co-organized by the University of the Aegean, the University of Piraeus and the University of Porto, with the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society and the IEEE Computer Society as technical supporters.

As the leading event of the year for maritime computing and robotics, the symposium aims to bring together scientists and industry professionals from around the world, showcasing cutting-edge research that is driving maritime technology into a new green era. The programme will feature sessions and presentations on recent developments in autonomous systems, robotics, IoT (Internet of Things), artificial intelligence, big data analytics and machine learning, along with their applications in the maritime sector.

“We are at the forefront of a fundamental transformation in the way ships operate – and in the way society in general operates. Huge amounts of data are reshaping the shipping industry at an unprecedented rate, offering the potential to make ships greener, safer, and more efficient,” says Professor Dimitris Zissis, one of the Symposium Chairs and Associate Professor of Information and Communication Systems, at the Dept. of Product & Systems Design Engineering, University of Aegean (Greece), and Head of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Lab.

On the second day, 27 June, the 2025 Ro-Boat Race will take place in the port of Syros. This event invites teams from universities and research institutions to showcase autonomous robotic boats capable of operating under real-life marine conditions. The competition aims to promote innovation while strengthening the connection between academic institutions and the maritime industry.

The Symposium is held under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy, Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, the Ministry of Tourism, the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation, and the Hellenic Institute of Marine Technology. Additionally, it is supported by the Antonios E. Komninos Foundation, our bronze sponsor, as well as its supporters: the Municipality of Syros-Ermoupolis, SeaTecHub, the ‘Apollo’ Theatre, and Blue Star Ferries. The official Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) is ARTION Conferences & Events.
