The 5th International Congress on Applied Ichthyology, Oceanography, and Aquatic Environment (HydroMediT 2024)

The 5th International Conference on Applied Ichthyology, Oceanography & Aquatic Environment “HydroMediT 2024” will be held on the hospitable island of Lesvos, from 30 May to 2 June 2024, at the premises of the University of the Aegean.

The highly successful international conference series HydroMediT is jointly organised by the Departments of Fisheries & Aquatic Environment (University of Thessaly), Fisheries & Aquaculture (University of Patras), Oceanography & Marine Biosciences (University of the Aegean), and the Panhellenic Association of Technologists of Fish Sciences.

The conference will focus on “Integrating research and scientific collaboration to promote the sustainability of the Blue Economy” and aims to highlight the need for policy makers, industry players and scientists to work together to address the various challenges of the Blue Economy.

The conference will cover a wide range of topics: aquaculture, fisheries, oceanography, marine diversity and conservation, inland aquatic ecology and resources, processing of aquatic products, economics and marketing of fisheries and aquatic products, environmental management and marine education, blue economy and governance.

The conference proceedings include both oral and e-poster presentations, as well as lectures by internationally renowned researchers.

The conference will be keynoted by Dr Steve Fletcher, Professor of Ocean Policy & Economy at the University of Portsmouth, UK, and four (4) other guest speakers: Dr. Xavier Durrieu de Madron from the Centre de Recherche et de Formation sur les Environnements Méditerranéens (CEFREM)) and the CNRS – Université de Perpignan Via Domitia, France, Dr.  George Rigos, Head of the Pathobiology & Pharmacokinetics Fish Lab, Dr. Halit Filiz, Professor at the Department of Ichthyology, Faculty of Fisheries, Mugla Sitki Kocman University, Turkey, and Prof. Dr. Dan C. Vodnar, Professor at Faculty of Food Science and Technology, University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca, Romania

The conference is co-organised and supported by the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece, the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Belgrade and the Laboratory of Applied Hydrobiology of the Department of Animal Science of the Agricultural University of Athens, under the auspices of the Ministries of Rural Development and Food, Ministry of Environment and Energy, Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, and Ministry of Maritime and Islular Policy, while it is part of the European Commission’s European Maritime Day “European Maritime Day in my Country” events.
